European Election 2009

There is no doubt that the election result was a disaster for the Labour Party, the result places additional pressure on Gordon brown to stand down or hold an early general election.

The result was not just bad news for Labour but it was bad news for all parties, again the low turnout and split results show that people are moving away from the main political parties and more importantly moved away from voting all together.

The Conservative victory handed them just one additional seat, the UKIP came in second place and gained just one additional seat, there was no big swing to any party, the only real winner was the BNP who have managed to gain two new seats and the credability they have been craving for so many years.

The big loser in this whole process is our democracy, we have yet again managed to elect the same people to the same jobs, just in a slightly different order. Real change can only come from within and the people elected yesterday are a part of the political establishment that brought us sleaze, excessive expense claims and a political class.

If people are ever to really have a voice in our democracy then they must feel there is some value in voting, it is important that we all push forward a new type of politics that engages with people and empowers them to vote in future elections.

The Jury Team will continue to fight for this new type of politics and with your support will make a real difference to the future of politics and democracy.

I have enjoyed being your representative and I would like to than everyone who voted for me and the Jury Team, as a new party we were always going to have an uphill struggle to make a dent in the European Election, but the principles we stand for are honest and true, and we have already managed to gain a significant number of votes and in our first ever election have managed to come in 14th place which is a significant achivement for a party that was only formed a few short weeks ago.

I sincerely hope we can now build upon our success and run a strong campaign for the general election.
